BANKING

The sparrows are always fascinated by this old clay bank.  I think they gather spider webs for their nests as well as insects to eat.  I saw a yellowhammer on the bank the other day but didn’t have my camera… Murphy’s law.

A busy day over at Whangarei yesterday, and another one coming up today, so no poetry written!  Bert the staffie had a great time at doggy day care, had to have a bath when he got home, and is exhausted today…(makes two of us really)

EARTH SPRING

in the paddock
the harsh cry and whir
of a cock pheasant
startles the horse

Russia is bombing
the Syrian opposition
claiming the airspace
from America

sparrows squabble
in the nikau palms
and a wood pigeon
plunders the loquats

on our deck
a twice-chewed bone
that even the ants ignore

the dog sighs
and turns over

spring, it’s all about
territory
