I’ve always liked sketching, but never really been brave enough to go out sketching in public, so I’ve joined an on-line group learning a bit more about it.   I’ve even got a little paint-box to take out with me, so I tried that out today and did a couple of scribbles.  Trouble is my eyesight is not as good as it used to be, and the writing on the little half-pans in the paint-box is so small I had to get out a magnifying glass to read them.  Of course I can see the colors but I wanted to make sure I had their names exactly right.  Life has it’s challenges.

I paid a visit today to an extremely talented lady, whose sketches and water-colours are superb.  She has been painting and sketching for a considerable number of years, and is somewhat of an expert on the history of this area.  Her paintings have been sold NZ wide, but I was also fascinated by her wonderful old preliminary sketches, and thought it would be good to record some of them before they disappeared.  Marama is a warm and lovely person who traces her ancestry back to a chiefly Maori line.  And I couldn’t resist including a picture of one of her colourful pot plants…
