‘There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves…Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.’ Luke 21:28
Here is my servant, whom I uphold,
my chosen one in whom I delight;
I will put my Spirit on Him
and he will bring justice to the nations.
He will not shout or cry out,
or raise His voice in the streets.
A bruised reed He will not break,
and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out…
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the Gentiles,
to open eyes that are blind,
to free captives from prison
and to release from the dungeon
those who sit in darkness.
A prophecy from Isaiah
For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given…

From the unknown
the light-bearer, angel-sung
answering the prophecies
Spirit into flesh
promised since creation.
‘But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah,
though thou be little among the thousands of Judah,
yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel;
whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.’
He is the reason
the stars sang for joy
and He is the reason
this world will never
be the same.

a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.’

See the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evil-doers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch. But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall…on the day when I act, says the Lord of hosts.
Micah, Holy Bible
For the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness, on them the light has shined…Isaiah 9:2
May the light of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, shine on you all this Christmas-tide.
‘The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness – on them light has shone.’
