chimes down the hours
fire and flood
we are drowning
with our heads
in the sand
how many more
do we have

pulses my heart
reaches down to the earth
heaves the sod beyond the river
rings the end of time
and my gaunt face
reflects the burning of coals
spits the fire hardly
missing that mark
until fire sears my soul
