that dark feather
lies lightly on the path
lifts to the searching wind
seeks again the soaring magic
of sky and hill

A male pheasant was stalking up the far side of the neighbours paddock this morning, so I grabbed my camera, more in hope than in anger – but you only get one chance. The minute he spotted me he was off! When I looked at this photo I noticed that it was probably the blackbird who startled him first – and I also noticed he’d left behind one of his feathers in the long grass. I had my zoom on full extension for this so I’m lucky the only shot I was able to get was at least in focus.
