DURIE HILL TOWER…

This tower was built as a memorial to the 513 people from the district who died in the First World War.  It is built with cemented marine sandstone from a nearby quarry.  Unfortunately this tower is 104 feet high with a spiral of 176 steps to the top, and with my fear of heights I haven’t been able to photograph the view from the top… The sandstone is estimated to be more than 2 million years old.
