The mantids are roaming on the lookout for a place to lay their egg-cases. Unfortunately I think this one is the African mantis which has largely displaced our own species.

yes – well they prey on other insects…
Ours are called praying mantis because they appear to kneel. I’ll try and find the photo for an Easter post!
