I look behind
and see my ancestors
melt into the past
and here am I
just a step on the road
to somewhere
hoping my children
are enough
to carry the past
along the road ahead
into the future

when I join
my ancestors

  1. I’ve been setting my daughter up to know their ancestors by every means possible. They are becoming verse in predecessors I hadn’t even met. Noble thoughts written in a wonderful poem!

  2. We might be surprised by what they choose to take along with them and what they choose to leave behind . . .

  3. What a beautiful way to put the connections between our past and the future. I too love that beautiful photo taken by your daughter. It has an almost ethereal look to it.
