The liquidambar falls
leaving a sad gap
in the sky
but I suppose
better
than a gap in the roof
for the past week
only one wood pigeon
has returned
to roost in his favourite tree
we’re worried
about his mate
the silver ferns
are drooping fronds
to the earth
mourning
maybe tomorrow
it will rain.
I hope the wood pigeon’s mate turns up as well as some rain.
Yes. He’s looking pretty miserable. Just hope no-one has killed her. They are so vulnerable Kiwiskan http://www.kiwis-soar.com
Oh nature can be tough at times. I hope the rain comes and the bird returns. Did the keruru roost in the liquidambar tree? We had a neighbouring Magnolia trimmed and the Tui who always used to sing in it has never used the tree again. His/her favourite branch was obviously removed and none of the remaining ones meet approval it would seem.
No, he doesn’t roost in the liquidambar. He always sits in the Grevillea robusta across the drive. Thanks for your thoughts Kiwiskan http://www.kiwis-soar.com
By the way can you tell which is a male and which is a female Keruru?
No. Guess I’m just taking poetic license. Pretty sad either way… kiwiskan http://www.kiwis-soar.com
I do the same with Tuis. I keep hoping for a post from you telling us the other bird has returned. Is it possible it could be on a nest somewhere in a late breeding attempt?
